Project Title:

"Nurturing Futures: Empowering Teen Mothers with Nutrition and Parenting Skills"

Project Goal:

Empowering teen mothers in Misungwi, Mwanza by providing nutrition education and parenting skills, ensuring the healthy development and well-being of their children

1. Nutrition and Parenting to 25 teen mothers and their children in Misungwi DC

Teen mothers and their children were oriented on health, breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, child feeding, hygiene, and health check-ups. The program strengthened parenting skills, promote safer caregiving, reduced stigma around adolescent motherhood, and helped prevent repeat unintended pregnancies while supporting children’s healthy growth and development

Nyanza Development Organization is an advocacy and Non-Governmental Organization, non-profit making organization. NYANZA is a result based oriented organization with high quality service delivery through participatory approach, its establishment and registration dates back on 8th May 2020 through NGO’s act 2002 caption 24 with registration number ONGO/R/1103 with its own governing board currently based in Misungwi District, Mwanza region. It is registered to provide services to children, youth, women and marginalized groups, the primary aim of its establishment was a result of socio-economic and climate related challenges which deprive human being to reach their highest potential.

2. Tree Planting at Health Facility

Tree planting at Mitindo Hospital - shade trees (shade), improved the health facility environment by providing shade, reducing heat around waiting areas, and creating a more comfortable space for patients, mothers, and children. The program promoted cleanliness and beautification of the facility, contributing to better health service delivery and community well-being.

3. Sexuality Education to Youth

Sexuality education sessions for 120 students (71 girls, 49 boys) at Misungwi Secondary School improved knowledge of reproductive health, personal hygiene, and responsible decision-making. The program helped reduce misinformation, strengthened awareness on prevention of early pregnancies and sexually transmitted infections, and promoted positive behavior change, self-confidence, and safer relationships among students.
